Drunk/Sober Game

Hi, well I'm new here. Anyways, my buddy has been into this PUA thing for a while and I went out with him a few times and observed things that blew my mind. Pick up lines such as a girl saying Hi... him going no I won't watch your purse for you then turning around continuing conversation with me and then ending up with a long conversation and a number close and getting texted like the second we leave the bar. Anyways, my biggest problem with this whole thing isn't really approach anxiety number closing or anything like that. I've actually been pretty good since I started winging for him. I've made out and number closed many times.... BUT and this is a really serious BUT..... when I call them again sober I suck. It's happened countless times, I number close call them/text them talk for a little while and then we don't hang out. I can't specifically put my finger on it, it feels like I'm doing everything the same. What's my deal?
